A 17-year-old's car was found to be fully engulfed by fire in the Riverside Drive woods near Lakeshore Close in Sleepy Hollow on midnight, Nov. 16.
The car was unoccupied when police arrived and the fire department extinguished the fire. Police took photos of the wreckage; the car, in the end, was totaled.
The driver, from Tarrytown, who was not injured and was at the scene, told police that he ran off the roadway and the car then caught on fire. Chief Gregory Camp said drugs or alcohol were not found to be a factor. He also said they found no evidence that he had been speeding.
"The car bottomed out, possibly caused sparks, ruptured gas line," he explained. The car, for which the teen was not the registered owner, was a 2001 Subaru.

Minutes after Sleepy Hollow police responded to that fire, they got a call about a trash can on fire on North Washington Street. A sergeant extinguished the still-smoldering can with his car's fire extinguisher. The fire department further soaked it with water.
Officials could not determine the cause at this time since they had to attend to the car fire; they took photos.

The car fire story, however, continues into later into the night. Already extinguished in Sleepy Hollow, the car needed another douse where it ended up in Tarrytown.
A Tarrytown police sergeant reported seeing a car smoking on top of a flatbed truck in front of Stiloski's at 2:52 a.m. He requested the fire department, who put the fire out, again.
