Two residences lost power on Monday morning after a tree fell on Bedford Road, bringing down adjacent electrical wires.
The Pocantico Hills Fire Department and Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the scene just after 11 a.m. to prevent traffic from traveling underneath the potentially live wires.
"The tree snapped and took down the wire," said Chief Joe Mahood of the PHFD.
Con Edison officials who responded to the scene determined the wires were no longer live.
"The box is dead at this point," said Mahood, pointing to the top of the affected utility pole.
Representatives from the New York State Department of Transportation used a chainsaw to break apart the tree and remove debris from the street.
By noon, the tree had been cleared from the road and officials awaited the arrival of a Con Edison vehicle that could disconnect the dead wires.
Mahood estimated the road would remain closed until around 1 p.m. and the two houses, 1185 and 1199 Bedford Road, will have full power restored later this afternoon.
