Troopers Charge PA Man with Possession, Driving Under Influence of Drugs

The 32-year-old was originally pulled over for speeding on I-87 in Tarrytown.

State Police of Troop T in Tarrytown charged a Pennsylvania man for drug possession and driving while impaired after pulling him over for speeding in the village.

Police said the gold Chevy Impala was found to be speeding on I-87 just before 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11.

When troopers pulled over the car, they said they smelled “burnt marijuana” and saw a clear plastic bag of the drug in “plain view.”

Troopers measured about 8 grams of marijuana in the bag, and also said they discovered narcotic pills not prescribed to the lone driver and not in their original container. They found the man to exhibit signs of being impaired by drugs at the time.

Police charged the 32-year-old from Nazareth, PA, with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (unclassified misdemeanor),
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree (class A           misdemeanor),
  • Unlawful Possession of Marijuana (a violation),
  • and Possession of a Controlled Substance in Non-Original Container (Public Health Law violation).

The man posted bail and was picked up by his mother. He is scheduled to appear in Village of Tarrytown Court.
