Citizens Protest Fracking During Astorino Visit in Tarrytown

The Citizens Campaign for the Environment shared a few photos and a press release with Patch about their recent attempt in Tarrytown to urge County Executive Rob Astorino to oppose fracking in New York.

Demand Westchester County Executive Astorino Oppose Fracking

On Thursday evening, concerned citizens and representatives from
environmental groups gathered outside the Tappan Hill Mansion, where Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino attended an event. They held signs and distributed flyers, urging Astorino to oppose fracking in New York. Since announcing a possible run for Governor last month, the County Executive has garnered the attention of environmental groups and concerned citizens across the state for his support of fracking. 
 
“The public has continuously denounced fracking, with hundreds of thousands of people speaking out against the dirty drilling method,” said Jordan Christensen, Program Coordinator for Citizens Campaign for the Environment. “The 2014 candidates must realize that fracking is a major concern for New Yorkers, and will remain front and center during the election season.” 

Governor Cuomo remains undecided on the issue as his administration continues to review the health impacts of fracking. County Executive Astorino, a potential 2014 challenger, has come out in favor of allowing fracking for gas, despite the serious public health, environmental, and economic concerns associated with practice. 
 
“Whoever gets elected in 2014 will have the fate of New York’s water, air, and land in their hands. Allowing fracking in New York is unacceptable, and the voters know it,” concluded Christensen.
