Free Holiday Parking in the Villages

There is such a thing as free parking, though there's never enough of it, in the villages this holiday season.

Wishing motorists—and merchants—happy holidays, the Tarrytown village board voted Monday to cover up downtown parking meters, allowing two-hour free parking spaces from this Friday, Dec. 7, through Friday, Dec. 28.

Bags will go on all street meters in the downtown business district as well as meters in municipal lots on South Washington Street, McKeel Avenue, Windle Park (village portion), the CitiBank lot (village portion) and South Broadway.

The free meters will have a two-hour limit and “it will be strictly enforced,” Trustee Thomas Brasher said as the board unanimously approved the annual measure.

The Sleepy Hollow village board also voted recently to suspend metered parking in the village for two weeks, Dec. 17 to Jan. 2, when holiday bags will cover the devices. This includes ALL the meters in the village, said Village Administrator Anthony Giaccio.

Finding a space? That's another matter.
