Mount Pleasant: Meet Senator Greg Ball

Ask questions, enjoy free barbecue hosted by the NYS District 40 Senator Thursday.

The following is a press release from the Office of Senator Greg Ball:

Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) and his staff will be hosting a town hall in the hamlet of Thornwood on Thursday night, in an effort to meet constituents in the new parts of his district. The meet and greet will give residents a chance to not only meet Senator Ball but also a chance to partake in a question and answer session directly with the Senator.

The new 40th senate district will pick up the towns Mount Pleasant and New Castle while losing Bedford, western Putnam County and much of Dutchess County. Click here to see a map of the new 40th senate district.

The town hall will be held on Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m. at the Thornwood American Legion, which is located at 52 Garrigan Ave., Thornwood, NY 10594.

Senator Ball will also be hosting a free BBQ with hamburgers, hot dogs and all the trimmings at the town hall on Thursday.

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
