Ever feel like the best part of your voting experience is entering into a room full of friendly poll workers there to greet and help you? Ever wonder if they get paid for their efforts? Ever want to join them?
While voters can come and go in minutes, the hours are long on voting day for the workers – 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. or so – but the rewards are great. So says a postcard that arrived today at Westchester residences calling for help.
“Your neighborhood needs your help!” begins the large postcard from the Westchester County Board of Elections. “If you can give your time, we will give you the training, the opportunity to work side by side with your neighbors or friends and, more than likely, meet some neighbors you have never met. More importantly, you'll play a fundamental and vital role in the democratic process....assisting the voters in casting their ballot.”
If that – and the stipend of $225 you'll receive for the day – sounds good to you, then fill out an application online at www.westchestergov.com/boe or contact them at 914/995-8568 or 914/995-5702.
See you at the polls!
