Tarrytown Board: Update on Train Station Lots

Repaving work on the nonresident parking lot will be completed by the last week in October; the parking lot south of the railroad station will be leased to the village.

In a ten-minute meeting last night the Tarrytown Board of Trustees took the following actions:

Announcements

  • The fall book sale at Warner Library will take place on Oct. 13 and 14
  • Warner Library is conducting a silent art auction to benefit the library. Bids will be accepted all month at the library. View the art here
  • Scarecrow making will take place Sat. Oct. 13 at 10:30 a.m. in Patriot's Park.
  • The Halloween parade will take place on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m., followed by a block party with a DJ and band on Main Street from 8:15 to 10:30 p.m.

Administrator's Report

Work on the nonresident parking lot west of the railroad tracks will be completed by the last week in October. When that work is finished, the project to restore Andre Brook will begin.

Actions and Resolutions

The Board agreed to a month-to-month lease agreement with Metro-North for the parking lot south of the railroad station. During the construction of the station, the lot was taken out of service. This is a letter agreement for a month to month lease for the parking lot. The letter agreement is an interim agreement while a new updated lease is negotiated.

The Board moved the work session schedule for Oct. 31 (Halloween) to Oct. 30.

Bill payments were approved in the amount of $1.2 million.

Thanks for the update on the train station lots. I continue to wonder if a safe way for pedestrians walking parallel to the tracks will be included in the upgrade, as even the tiny old sidewalk parallel to the tracks has become inaccessible. Walkers walking south -- from the H Bridge, West Main, or from the cars they just parked -- have to walk in traffic to get to the stairs leading to the tracks. Essentially the only spot to walk is between parked cars and oncoming traffic.
It is difficult for walkers and parkers.

The plantings (esp on the SE side) look great.

It does! I've only heard from Blau that sidewalks are coming but I don't know the exact plan.

Doesn't appear that these sidewalks are in store for 2012...after all the work completed by the train, we still need a safe way for pedestrians walking parallel to the tracks to walk. The tiny old sidewalk parallel to the tracks was made inaccessible. Walkers walking south -- from the H Bridge, West Main or from the cars they just parked -- have to walk in traffic to get to the stairs leading to the tracks. Essentially the walking path is between parked cars and oncoming traffic. And as the parked cars are started, pedestrians are sandwiched between cars backing out and oncoming traffic. It is a bad accident waiting to happen.

Still no sign of progress on the sidewalks. I was "tapped" by an SUV on Monday (the driver was backing up to readjust his parking spot.) It I hadn't hit the car with my arm it certainly would have hit me more signfigantly.
