Resident to Board: Key Bank Lot 'Disgusting'

A resident complains about the Wildey Street parking lot owned, and filled, by Stiloski's Towing. Meanwhile, John Stiloski reveals his potential tenant.

"Disgusting," resident Bettina Spargo told the Tarrytown Board, describing the garbage-strewn parking lot at the former Key Bank building at the end of Wildey Street.

The since mid-2010 when Key Bank consolidated branches.  bought the building, which is now for lease.

"I walk by this lot everyday and it is disgusting," said Spargo. "There is dog feces all over the place, big trucks are parked there, and for about a week a tarp has been laying on the sidewalk."

Village Administrator Mike Blau responded to Spargo's complaint that the towing company rented the building, which comes with the lot. He said the matter would be turned over to the Building Department to determine if codes are being violated.

Meanwhile I asked John Stiloski if there was a potential leaseholder yet for the space. Tarrytown get ready this: We may have not one but two tattoo parlors in the village which only changed its code recently to .

"We are working with a tattoo artist out of Manhattan to rent the space. We should know soon; the lease and built out are out for review," Stiloski said. He did not offer any response however to Spargo's criticism.

Does this parking lot bother you? Does the thought of another tattoo parlor? Let us know in the comments.

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
