Sleepy Hollow’s Vishal Brown will not be competing for a Trustee seat this election cycle, he has announced.
This leaves the unopposed thus far – barring the emergence of any surprise independent candidates by the Feb. 13 deadline to register.
In Tarrytown, it’s all incumbents and no competition so far, with only a rumor of another independent candidate possibly emerging. (Stay tuned.)
Vishal, who didn’t make it into the nomination process at the Sleepy Hollow Democratic Caucus, has decided not to run under a different party as initially planned.
“It was a more of strategic move not to run right now,” Brown said.
Mayor Wray and his preferred Trustee candidates included Brown, newcomer Glenn Rosenbloom, and incumbent Evelyn Stupel. At the time, they said they would stick together.
Stupel and Rosenbloom, as did the Mayor, got their nominations. Brown however did not, as incumbent Bruce Campbell won in the first round of votes.
Incumbent Barbara Carr did not win a nomination. After the caucus she said she did not know if she would run anyway, which it seems she will not.
Brown has decided it best to wait it out. In two years time, Brown said, “some of the trustees may not seek reelection so there is an easier path to becoming a trustee compared to this time around.”
“Either way, in months to come I'll be more involved in other functions of the village," Brown said. He currently serves as chair on the Recreation Advisory Committee and on the Waterfront Advisory Committee. “There are other boards/commitees which have more important roles in the village. I can make contributions there as well."
"In any event," he added, "I have my wedding to plan." Brown will wed Gabriella Smith at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club in July. The couple lives in a house they bought in Sleepy Hollow in 2011; you can read more about this pair in this engagement announcement in Westchester Magazine.
