Businesses looking for workers with middle-level skills are encouraged to participate in the Westchester-Putnam One-Stop Employment Center’s month-long virtual job fair in September.
“It’s easy to participate,” said County Executive Robert P. Astorino, “and those businesses that do so can save money by avoiding the costs of recruiting and screening workers themselves. The One-Stop will also help pay the cost of training new employees.”
Interested businesses may register at www.westchesterputnamonestop.com. The businesses may list jobs, review resumes and screen candidates online. Businesses may also work with One-Stop staff to screen candidates and may use office space at the One-Stop to conduct candidate screenings and interviews.
Employers may also access thousands of qualified local candidates who are registered with the One-Stop. For assistance, contact either Milton David or Bob Fois at (914) 995-3910.
David Singer, president of Robison Oil and chair of the Workforce Investment Board, which oversees the One-Stop, said, “We have a wide range of services that can help our businesses find qualified workers and save money on recruitment.”
Dorothy Dobkowski from Whole Foods worked closely with the One-Stop last year during a two-month long hiring initiative where nearly 700 applicants were interviewed for 200 positions in the Ridge Hill Whole Foods store.
Of the experience, she said, “We benefited from the One-Stop’s resources, particularly with phone screening and the first two rounds of interviewing of nearly 400 competitive candidates. One-Stop staff took a hands-on approach and we’re grateful for this direct support.”
Other sponsors of the virtual job fair are the Yonkers WIB and One-Stop, the Business Council of Westchester and the New York State Department of Labor.
