Welcome to Patch's snapshot of sports in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.
The following comes from David Halesworth:
After a month of hard preparation, all five of the Tarrytown Wolfpack teams opened their season this past weekend, with great results.
Wolfpack 3rd & 4th grade Black opened with a tight away game against the Cortlandt Cowboys. Great blocks by Weston Latessa and Robert DelVecchio sprung Ben Good from 20 yards out for the opening score. Aren Arduino scored on a reverse for the extra point and a 7-0 lead. A great start to The season with a 13-6 victory over Cortlandt.
Strong defense led by Latessa and Tommy Rickles kept Cortlandt off of the scoreboard until the second half when a long TD run left the score at 7-6 heading into the 4th quarter. Phillip Marchini, Benji Adair, Lorenzo Boccabella and Kevin Sullivan played strong defense, and shut down Cortlandt the rest of the way. The offense took care of the rest. After a great catch by Kishaun Cole, Good scored again from 55 yards out on a sweet double reverse to close out the scoring and a great 13-6 win!
Wolfpack 3rd & 4th White opened at home against their rivals the Ossining Indians. They wasted no time taking control of the game with a nice opening drive, capped by a sweet 40 yard TD pass from Harrison Halesworth to James Welch who whirled his way to paydirt. The defense picked up where the offense left off, shutting down the Ossining offense all game long.
The defense was in Ossining's backfield disrupting almost every play, led by the strong tackling of Jacob Zednik, Noel Gomez, Liam-Peter Hanson, Dylan Nelson, William and Henry Kelly, and Halesworth, who proved unblockable. The offense proved unstoppable, with Zednik weaving his way 40 yards for a score, and Halesworth scoring twice from 40 and 45 to cap the scoring. The offensive line dominated, with Evan Bernal, Danny Sullivan, Talon Carsto and Kenny Vasquez opening up huge holes for the backs to cruise through. In the end it was a great team effort, and a 24-0 win!
Wolfpack 5th & 6th opened at home against Ossining. Wolfpack jumped on Ossining early, as Danny Adair ripped off an 80 yard TD run to open the scoring. The defense led by Danny Minerva's 10 tackles and two caused fumbles was strong all day. The backfield of QB Colby martins and RB Terrance Williams drove up and down the field at will. After a nice Ossining drive and TD to bring the score to 7-6, Jack Stroligo busted outside for a 35 yard TD, and Justin Hotetz finished up the scoring with the extra point. All of the boys did a great job in the 13-6 win!
Wolfpack Flag Black opened against Ossining as well, and played a great game. James Smith led the offense with a long TD run for a 7-0 lead. The defense fought hard all day to contain a tough Ossining team, led by Tyler Mahood, Riley Tuck, Matthew Carey, and Smith. In the end they couldn't hold off the Indians, and lost a squeaker 14-7.
Wolfpack Flag Red won their opener 28 - 7, as Armani Curet led the way with two long TD runs, and an interception return for a TD. Joseph Weitzen capped the scoring with a TD of his own. The defense was strong all day, with Curet, Luke Wuerffel, Jack Macca and Nico Boccabella making things difficult for Valhalla all day. A great team effort in the win!
