Scholarship Award

The below posts were taken from the Sleepy Hollow Athletic website:

Congratulations to Senior Alexia Boumis on being the 2012 winner of the Westchester County Officials Swimming $500 scholarship award.

Alexia has been a varsity swimmer and Captain of the SHEDI team for over 5 years. Within her swimming career, she has been a Divisional and Sectional qualifier and finalist, as well as a New York State qualifier in the 400 and 200 free relays in 2010 and 2011.

Alexia not only excels in the pool, but academically as well. She constantly pushes herself in the classroom, taking AP and other challenging courses as well as remaining one of the top students in her 2012 graduating class.

She is a model athlete and swimmer and on behalf of the SHEDI swim team we would like to congratulate her on winning this prestigious award.

Sleepy Baseball

On Tuesday April 24th, Dionel Infante, Jason Martinez, Ronniel Munoz, and Immer Rosado each had two hits and an RBI to defeat Hastings 7-2. Winning pitcher Alex Stoll went five innings and struck out eight. James Guiney drove in both runs with a single in the sixth inning for Hastings. Sleepy Hollow is now (9-0).

Sleepy Boys Lax

The varsity boys’ lacrosse team improved their record to three and four, with a 14 – 3 victory over Ardsley. The potent offense featured NINE different players contributing to the scoring. Jake Warren led all scorers with three goals and one assist. Steven Bencosme tallied four points as well with two goals and two assists. Goal-keeper, Alex Laub led the stingy defense with nine saves.

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
