Suburbia Roller Derby Double Header At Purchase College, Saturday April 21

Double header! Come for the men, stay for the ladies!

We're getting schooled! Suburbia Roller Derby is bringing hard-hitting action and awesome entertainment to the campus of SUNY Purchase. At 6pm, the guys from the New York Shock Exchange battle it out with the Capital District's Trauma Authority. Then at 7:30pm, the ladies of the Suburban Brawl host Bleeding Heartland (#13 in WFTDA's North Central region). Tough guys, fast girls, cupcakes, plenty of parking, and Purchase College's huge, shiny gym. This is going to be the most exciting Saturday night in Westchester EVER!

  • $5 for SUNY students, faculty, and staff (with ID at door)
  • $10 for students from all other colleges (with ID at door)
  • $15 General Admission ($12 in advance)$25 trackside VIP

When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
