Hackley Girls Get Revenge at Poly

The below was taken from the Hackley website:

On Wednesday, the Hackley Girls' Lacrosse team walked onto the same field that ended their season last year. But this time they walked off the field having dominated a tough Poly Prep team and winning 14-8.

By halftime, Hackley had an 8-3 lead based on the incredible play of Kelly Gorman and the defense, and the stellar shooting of the offense. Poly came out tough in the second half, but Hackley stayed poised and continued their dominance.

Though everyone played very well, Laurel Cassidy and Trish Gorman led the way for the offense with four goals each. The defense shut down Poly's top scorer with tough play by Stef Frolo, Kelly Gorman and the rest of the defense.

Sleepy Hollow Victorious

Sleepy Hollow's boys lacrosse squad came away with a big 8-2 triumph at Nanuet on April 17 according to highschoolsports.net.

L.J. Garrant registered two goals and two assists to lead Sleepy.

Jack Centra and Frank Curanaj also scored twice for the visitors with Centra adding an assist. Sleepy's Alex Laub made eight saves.

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
