We thank the Holy Child communications department for the below submission:

RYE, N.Y., FEBRUARY 6, 2012 – School of the Holy Child’s varsity field hockey team had six players named to the 2011 National Academic Squad, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) recently announced.

The six honorees include seniors Helen Brosnan (Larchmont, NY), Jessica Cordasco (Eastchester, NY), Molly Fitzwilliam (Stamford, CT), Catherine Anne Gray (Rye, NY), Paige Kennedy (Eastchester, NY) and Mary Clare Manfred (Tarrytown, NY).

"We are proud of our talented student-athletes, who distinguish themselves on the playing field while excelling in classroom,” said John Pizzi, director of athletics. “Tremendous discipline and dedication are required to achieve such a feat.”

According to Pizzi, all honorees have been significant contributors to the team’s success. Over the past two seasons, varsity field hockey has made New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) semi-final and final appearances and finished with a record of 23-13-3.

Players named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad must have attained a minimum overall grade point average of 3.5 through the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.

Taylor shines at GW

Former Archbishop Stepinac boys basketball standout and Sleepy Hollow resident Tony Taylor is doing the job in college at George Washington.

Taylor, a senior, did all he could to help the host Colonials to a victory against UMass Feb. 4 as he tallied a season and game-high 26 points but unfortunately the visitors came away with a 86-75 win.
