Great regular season for girls basketball

2/24/2012
By Jason Edwards,Hackley Athletics Director: It gives me great pleasure to announce that the girls’ varsity basketball team has ended their regular season undefeated. They played Horace Mann Thursday evening, winning by a score of 58-25 to end the regular season.

As expected our girls’ basketball team received the #1 seed for the upcoming NYSAIS tournament next Thursday, March 1st starting at 5:00 PM. Hackley will be hosting the winner of the Fieldston-Chapin game.

I have included the roster below as this is a huge accomplishment for the team and the program and they deserve to be recognized. Coach Shelagh Amann and Ann Marie Bauer have done an incredible job with the girls. Congratulations to the team and the best of Luck in the Playoffs!!!

  • Seniors: Capt. Nia Yancopoulos, Capt. Trish Gorman, Carolyn King
  • Juniors: Capt: Allie Coppola, Dom Alpuche, Julianna Piscina, Katie Maguire

Weekly Sports Poll

This was created by our own :

Major League Baseball lost a great earlier this month, former Met and Expo Gary Carter

Eleven years after he retired, Carter was elected into the baseball Hall of Fame and many consider him one of the best catchers of all time.

But where do you think “Kid” ranks among the best New York back stops of all time?

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
