Hackley Varsity Co-ed Winter Track 2012

The below was taken from the Hackley Athletic Department website. We congratulate those Hackley athletes on their tremendous accomplisments:

Competing in 14 meets this winter, Hackley student performed well, with almost everyone improving their personal best results. They worked as team, with experienced athletes helping beginners with technique and introducing them track meet rules and procedures.

Every member of the team competed at Ivy League Championship to good results, our small team bringing in third place overall finishes for both boys’ and girls’.

Four students brought in multiple gold medals at the League Championship, earning them All League recognition:

  • Alyza Ngbokoli, gold medal in Triple Jump, High Jump and 55m Hurdles.
  • Robert Cacace, gold medal in Shot Put and Long Jump.
  • Ian Parnell, gold medal in 55m dash and 300m run.
  • Paula Stone, gold medal in shot put.

Paula Stone broke the Hackley school record three times during this season, and Ian Parnell’s 6.71 in the 55m dash set a new school record as well. The Hackley Girls’ team finished 1st among private schools in the Westchester County Championship, while the Boys’ team placed second.

Three Hackely athletes -- Ian Parnell (55m dash and 300m), Rob Cacace (long jump), and Alyza Ngbokoli (triple jump) – earned medals. In addition, these three along with senior AJ Wolf (shot put) qualified to compete at the State Meet at Cornell.

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
