RiverArts Castle Tour

We want to invite you to Studio A Gallery's next opening on Friday, April 5, 2013, 6-9 PM.  We will be showing the sculpture of Keiko Ikoma, an artist living and working in Japan.   As well, we will  have on view the sculpture of Jo-Ann Brody, highlighting her installation in our sculpture garden. Also we will be featuring work by Athena Bing He, William C. Maxwell, Jieping Liu, and David Barnett.

Keiko Ikoma

Keiko Ikoma, living and working in Nishijin/Kyoto, Japan, was trained in the classical Japanese traditions of ceramics and is presently working on objects that are rich in surface, referencing volcanic and archeological remains that posit a life-death dialectic.  She is fascinated with minerals and stones, using nature as inspiration and content.   Decay, rot, decomposition and gradual decline speak of spontaneous disintegration of material and form.  They embody her vessels as repositories. 

Jo-Ann Brody

Jo-Ann Brody evokes gesture and stance as she presents her cluster of cement women who are moving, signaling and conversing, as they would in real life.  But in their sculptural silence, the conversation is open and reciprocal, inviting the spectator into the dialogue.  What are they talking about?

New Exhibition Schedule

We are launching our new exhibition schedule starting on April 5, 2013. Our next show, Denise Petit, will open on April 19.  Petit's work is about Tarrytown and its Hudson Valley landscape.  On May 17, 2013, we will open with a show of photographs by Howard Goodman and sculpture by Lisa Breznak.  The schedule will continue with new artists every four weeks throughout the summer and into the fall.  When possible, openings will be scheduled on Tarrytown's Third Friday celebration.  We invite all Friends of Studio A Gallery to attend these openings and exhibitions.  We appreciate your spreading the word in our attempt to expand the gallery's events.

We are introducing a new class schedule that includes private live model painting and drawing, more gallery tours, Children's Art Workshops and Mixed Media Workshops.  Athena is also planning special workshops in Portrait Painting and Drawing Figure Painting and Drawing to be held at both Studio A Gallery, Tarrytown, and her studio in Dobbs Ferry.  Also, she will be offering Plein Air Landscape Painting as the weather improves.  More information on this new schedule and new locations will be forthcoming.

RiverArts Open Studio Tour 2013

Athena's new Castle Studio will be open on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, 28, 11 to 5 PM as part of the RiverArts open studio tour.   The address is 155 Beacon Hill Drive, Dobbs Ferry, NY, 10522, Apt. 5. Please come! The Castle Studio will be used for more intensive classes, displaying Athena's work, and as Athena's new painting studio.

Please make sure you park on the street, Beacon Hill Drive, outside the castle.  Do not park in the private parking lot.  Thank you.
