Gallery Bursting At The Seams For Visiting Artist Susan Phillips

New York-based photographer Susan Phillips was our guest artist at Tappan Z Gallery last Friday night, drawing a very large audience.

The weather gods behaved for our second 'Meet The Artist" event for the season when photographer and mixed media artist Susan Phillips pulled in a large audience for her appearance at last Friday.

Susan and her husband Ed drove down from Woodstock bringing a bundle of additional pieces to complement the photos on hand. Amazingly, as a former school teacher, Susan is still in touch with many of her (well and truly grown) primary school students who turned out to support "Mrs Phillips".

A wide range of friends and 'walk-ins' spent time with Susan and her work well into the evening. Our featured series of digital prints is from a group of works called 'Momentary Reflections'. Having Susan on hand was a good opportunity to talk shop with her and one thing she did make very clear is that although her work is in the digital format, she does NOT manipulate her images in Photoshop before printing them.

Stay posted for a short video about Susan and her work later this weekwhich we'll upload on our YouTube channel.

Susan's work will continue to be on display at the gallery throughout June and our next visiting artist will be noted landscape painter Carolyn Edlund who is based in Poughkeepsie. Carolyn will be at Tappan Z Gallery on June 15th from 5pm.

Carloyn's work is widely praised.

“Edlund’s mystical landscapes are an exclamation of wonder, analogous to running through a field on the first day of spring and throwing your hands up in the air. “In the process of creating an image, each tree branch, pebble on a path, or wisp of billowy cloud breathes with me and me with it. I would like each viewer to stand in my shoes, feel the warmth of the sun and the cool of the shade and smell the fresh air.” Yet, there is an unreachable quality about her paintings that hints at fragility and times long past. She leaves it up to you, whether the scene is a relic from your past or a brand new site of adventure.”

We'll remind you about her visit closer to the time.
