Teapots and Peacocks! New This Week At Tappan Z Gallery

New Artworks at Tappan Z Art Gallery by Miriam Schulman and Robin Kline.

What do teapots and peacocks have in common? Probably not much, but they come together as the latest work to join the inventory at this week.

Miriam Schulman is based in Scarsdale and has established a strong reputation for her large-scale canvasses. We've got three fantastic brilliantly colored acrylics all based around the peacock theme.

Whether her subjects are peacocks or people, personality moves the paintbrush of New York artist Miriam Schulman. Collectors love her vibrant use of color and energetic works in water media. A master of watercolor, Schulman sometimes includes collage elements to add additional visual interest to her art. Schulmans' art has been collected internationally and is a favorite among set designers for television and print ads. Her art graces the sets of the NBC show Parenthood, the covers of magazines such as "American Journal of Veterinary Medicine" and has been published inThe New York Times and The Art of Man.

For more information on Miriam's work visit her artist page at the tappanzgallery website.

Robin Kline is a ceramic artist and one of her more popular range of work are classic teapots and ceramic bowls. We have a really nice selection of her work just new to the gallery. Here's Robin talking about her practice.

"Clay has a life of its own and as a potter, I love to interact with the clay’s vitality. The process of throwing, forming a pot on the wheel, completely engages me. I love the challenges of continually trying to refine forms. What I strive for in my work, is to create pots that maintain a sense of the process in the finished pieces. To achieve that organic quality, I have layered glazes on some pieces, painted with liquid, colored clay on others and experimented with altering and carving forms. My pots are meant to be used and to enhance daily life – hopefully tableware makes a meal more of a celebration and vases hold and display flowers in a unique way."

There's more information at our website with some additional images of her work.

Finally, this week we've just launched our new online gallery store where you can purchase small artworks, jewelry and design pieces. You can purchase on line securely and most items are shipped free. We hope you can take a look.

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
