TZ Bridge Construction Crews Will Use Hudson Harbor As Home Base

Hudson Harbor, bustling construction hub mixed in with quiet high-end townhomes, yoga studio, private party rentals at the Clubhouse, and fancy ice cream, can now add Tappan Zee Bridge construction headquarters to its resume.

The sales office building, closest to the Tarrytown DPW lot, is readying itself for the bridge crew to move in. Even the edges of the DPW, once providing sprawl space for beaten down trucks, has been cleared, as surrounding areas get smoothed, repaved and wired.

(This photo is of men at work in the heat running some cable next to the office building.)

The village, and Hudson Harbor residents themselves, received notice from the Harbor development that they would be renting the building to the bridge operation. They are not using any public property on this Tarrytown side of the project, so the village will not be receiving any payments.

Sleepy Hollow has been in talks with Tappan Zee Constructors over their end of the deal, as the crews will be parking at Hudson Harbor and walking over to get on work boats docking near Horan’s Landing.

Sleepy Hollow Village Administrator Anthony Giaccio said they plan to apply for a building permit, which will be the only money the village will be collecting for their plans to use the cove just south of the existing pier (Old Castle Oil Pier). "They will not block the future RiverWalk," Giaccio said.

In June, Tarrytown Mayor Drew Fixell sent out the following “welcome” and “good luck” letter along with details of what they will be doing here:

I am pleased to welcome Tappan Zee Constructors to the Village of Tarrytown.

TZC has been preparing carefully for the launch of the staging area at Hudson Harbor that will be the base of operations for much of the construction activity for the replacement Tappan Zee Bridge. Village officials have been working closely with TZC and the Thruway Authority to assure that activities relating to the building of the new bridge continue with least imposition on the Village, and to allow TZC to finish the work on their aggressive schedule.

TZC will manage day to day aspects of the construction from the offices they are leasing at Hudson Harbor. Westchester-based construction staff will be ferried to work sites from an adjoining pier in Sleepy Hollow. No heavy equipment or building materials will be located at Hudson Harbor, or taken to work sites from the shore in this area.

Tarrytown has enjoyed a constructive relationship with TZC and the TA for many months. Both organizations share a headquarters facility in the Village, and we look forward to continuing as good neighbors throughout the project. I wish them all the best in this unique undertaking!
