Briarcliff Manor: Seussical Auditions

Where: Briarcliff Manor Recreation Building (48 Macy Rd).

Tuition is $450

Description: The Summercliff Players, a youth theatre group not limited to Briarcliff Manor and Ossining residents, is gearing up for its summer production of Seussical. Rehearsals begin on June 24. Email summercliffplayers@gmail.com to set up an audition time.

Hartsdale: Learn to Grow Your Own Vegetables


Where: Greenhouse at Hart's Brook Nature Preserve, 156 Ridge Road, Hartsdale.

Description: In this workshop, Andrea Kish, Cornell Cooperative Extension trained Master Gardener volunteer, will explain and demonstrate site selection, soil preparation, deciding what to grow and when and how to plant.

Port Chester: Grand Opening of Garcia’s Bar at The Capitol Theatre


Where:
Garcia’s, 149 Westchester Avenue, Port Chester

When:
Thursday, May 16 through Saturday, May 18

Cost: Tickets are $10 

Description: In partnership with the family of Jerry Garcia, The Capitol Theatre is christening its lobby bar as Garcia's in honor of the late Grateful Dead guitarist and singer, who counted the Port Chester rock palace among his favorite venues in the country. The bar, which will be open seven days a week and host live music, will formally open May 16-18 with three nights of performances by Rye’s Reid Genauer (Strangefolk/Assembly of Dust) and Friends. Garcia's will feature rare photos, artwork, and equipment, including vintage never-before-seen shots from famed music/fashion photographer Roberto Robanne, who met Garcia in 1966 and had unlimited access to Garcia and the Dead. Noted philanthropist and Grateful Dead fan Scott Brittingham has also loaned an 18" bronze sculpture of Garcia's hand to the bar (one was donated to the Grateful Dead Archive at UC Santa Cruz and another exact version is displayed in Garcia's honor at The Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara).

Rye: Saturday in the Park with Friends

Description: Friends of Rye Town Park is holding its annual fundraiser on May 18 from 6-9 p.m. under the pavilions in the park. Somers: Lobster Fest

St. Luke’s Church, 331 Route 100, Somers

When: Sunday, May 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

Cost: $25

Description:
Fresh lobster is cooked to order. You can dine under the tent or take out. The lobster fest will include a lobster, corn on the cob and boiled potato for $25, bring your own beverage.

Sleepy Hollow: Special Olympics


Where:
Sleepy Hollow High School, Sleepy Hollow

When:
Saturday, May 18 

Description: Sleepy Hollow High School will be the host of the Hudson Valley Special Olympics Spring Games, a track and field event that will bring about 600 athletes from all over the Hudson Valley, including Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland, Orange, Ulster counties. Every athlete will receive a trophy thanks to Brendan Murphy, a 16-year-old student at Sleepy Hollow High School. Read more about it here.

Tarrytown: EF Culture Fair


Where: EF Education First, 100 Marymount Avenue (Marian Hall), Tarrytown 

When: Friday, May 17, 12 to 3 p.m.

Cost: Free 

Description: Breaking down barriers, EF Culture Fair is a day when students from over 40 countries around the world show off their cultures to friends, local host families, school children and community members.  Each country has its own room, which will be decorated with exhibits from the students' home countries - some nationalities will also put on performances and others will prepare samples of their favorite food from home.
