it's not just the coffee..or extraordinary apple turnovers from Balthazar..it's the team behind the counter and the folks and their four legged friends sitting in the shop. My day is not complete without one (or two) trips up the hill for a daily dose.

Legend has it that couple Michael Love and Alicia Kelligrew left a cup of coffee on the floor one night and their Labrador drank the whole thing without spilling a drop. In 2002 the couple opened Lab, a bustling coffee shop and a growing wholesale business selling the beans they roast right in the center of the room. Head roaster Kurt Balogh works the big machine as patrons read, chat, enjoy the wireless, eat pastries and get their java fix.
