The John Paulding School is situated on a hilltop to the east of Broadway in Sleepy Hollow. The school is home to the district's approximately 200 first-grade students.

The institution is supported by about 38 full-time staff, part-time staff and assistants. In 2008, John Paulding School had approximately 13 students for every full-time equivalent teacher, according to the New York State Education Department.

The John Paulding School educational experience is delivered through a variety of multisensory and multidisciplinary activities. Students tend to come to the school without the ability to read or perform basic math, but by the end of the school year most leave with fundamental reading, writing and math skills.
