Rob Astorino claims "Families don't go to Playland anymore." But when I was there on a…Read More rainy cold opening day on Saturday, I was SURROUNDED by nothing but families - even HIS family was there. They all came out in the lousy weather to have a good time. Parents and kids and grandparents and every combo of aunt uncle cousin etc. you could imagine, all different colors, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, many different languages being spoken, everyone happy to see the place open again, getting along, smiling, having a good time. I think I was about the only person there who *wasn't* with kids. Families families families. But...don't you know...families don't go to Playland anymore? People love Playland. They want to see it brought back to life as a vibrant amusement park, not dismantled for a grassy field and indoor sports facility.

I've heard nothing but positive about the process (as annoying as it may be, residents seem to think…Read More the workers/officials are very considerate, thorough and accessible). I wonder if anyone else's experience has been different?
This comes as a further update from Duracell PR man Win Sakdinan:
"Excavation and remediation are continuing in property groupings to minimize disruption to the local community. These groupings range from one to several properties (2-5). We are currently working on five properties and will progress to additional properties as we complete others.
The schedule for the property groupings is dependent on many factors, including agreement from property owners, NYSDEC approval, and approvals from the Village of Sleepy Hollow. We are working diligently to evaluate these criteria and coordinate property grouping to ensure efficiency for the community. We anticipate that work will be suspended again for the winter months, resuming in the spring 2014. Once again, we’re very appreciative of the collaboration from all partners and the community."

Interesting article thanks Krista and thanks Eric for volunteering. The comment attributed to the…Read More Tree Commission's Eric Clingen, appears to be at odds with the Village code http://ecode360.com/10675438. There is no prohibition mentioned in the Village Code on root removal that I can see. Section 281-10 Trimming of trees and shrubs, item B. Topping of trees is to be avoided. Topping of any tree exceeding four inches in diameter at a height of four feet six inches measured from the ground, on any property, shall require a tree permit. The permit may be issued by the Tree Commission if there is sufficient evidence that failure to top the tree would pose significant danger in terms of safety or property damage
The existing Village Tree Code can be found here (please correct me if I am wrong but it appears to apply to everyone in the Village except the Village of Tarrytown itself). Chapter 281 is specifically for TREES. http://ecode360.com/10675438
For example who authorized the removal on the Hawthorne tree that the Heron's nested in (a protected bird?) by the Senior Centre where Andrea Brook enters the Hudson River?
The Tree Removal Permit can be found here http://www.tarrytowngov.com/Pages/TarrytownNY_DPW/TreePermit.pdf . Bizarrely there is no mention on the permit referencing the tree code. You are expected to know these things or find them for yourself, for example the rules regarding the required root removal as missing from the Tree Removal Permit.
