THis is a sane discussion and I am part of that debate. I can't believe that the person who wrote…Read More that eloquent defense of the Newtown parents is the same person who calls me a right wing troll and an idiot. I didn't make the connection the other day when I read your post in response to Rabbi Mark's piece. I am totally mystified.
This is my position and it's not insane. What's insane, in my opinion, is a populace that's armed to the teeth. And your accusation that I am idiot is violent speech; it's hurtful and uncalled for. So what's the difference between the anger you hold in your heart and the anger in the heart of an armed person? Answer: Reason and Restraint, right? But you demonstrate neither in your posts, and I'm to condone your right to possess a fire arm?

What angers me, is that the far left and the far right scream and the middle can't talk. I don't…Read More want to be furious at the inhumanity of the men like Bob Davis who would boast about telling the parents of murdered children to go to hell. I want to have a rational discussion about a serious topic. I want the middle to be strong enough to be heard over the people that want this to be a war. My son said something wise beyond his years, he said, "Dad, don't argue with idiots. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." He's right. I don't want to argue with idiots. I want a fair debate among Citizens.

Truth be, I am sure that there are fools on the far left who support repealiing the Second…Read More Amendment. I feel the same disgust with this far left position as I do with the far right, who would legalize machine guns, plastic guns designed to avoid metal detectors, armor piercing bullets, and a host of other weapons and ammunition that go far beyond what is needed to defend one's home and family. The idea that the Second Amendment should be repealed is every bit as idiotic as the idea that there can be no restrictions on arms.

From Peter Royston on a great weekend: "The Year of the Lion concludes as 50 young souls…Read More walking forward together on stage, soaking up the well deserved applause and rightfully proud of themselves. A wonderful final performance of THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE! Thanks to all who helped to bring it roaring to life!!"

How would the candidates possibly know the answer if nobody else knows the answer?
Joan Buckley May 2, 2013 at 03:59 pm
I'm asking the candidates for a ballpark figure. Are we talking about 50 students or 200?
Krista Madsen (Editor) May 2, 2013 at 03:43 pm
Yes, I think no one can offer up a real number on this right now.

Kim, you are so right. Totally correct in everything you have said. What a waste and missed…Read More opportunity to send a message to others right here in Westchester. The unsaid part is that he comes from a family devoted to community and medical service as pillars of the Tarrytown area. He may not have been properly unpunished in the law but he has been sentenced to a lifetime of disgrace to live with.

A five year probation period? So, basically, nothing. This is outrageous. I remember this case.…Read More There were victims of human trafficking rescued from this multi-million dollar ring. These so-called prostitution rings are notorious for sex slavery and this one was no different. The Journal News reported that a wiretap caught him tipping off his dealer and saying that one of the girls must be talking to the cops. I wonder how badly one of the girls got beaten for that.
If we, as a society, don't actually PUNISH criminals such as former Dean Mendelowitz, then how is human trafficking ever going to end. My step-son had him as a dean, and I thank God he was caught before my daughters enter high school. How a man can have a 20 year drug habit and no one notice is beyond me. I suppose it shouldn't be, because he was convicted of serious crimes and is doing zero time. Are the taxpayers paying his pension, I wonder?
The message is loud and clear. Women and girls suffer, while privileged males go unpunished. And the "Don't worry no one in Scarsdale was harmed" sentiment is especially sickening.

Sorry, but I don't know at this time, and am getting the picture that the district does not have the…Read More figures yet, either. Will have to do some research on this.
Joan Buckley May 2, 2013 at 02:43 pm
Could you give us a ballpark figure on how many nonresident children we're talking about?
Jennifer Green May 2, 2013 at 04:03 am
No, I would not support a "pay to play" policy for the arts and athletics. I would want…Read More these valuable programs to remain equally available to all of our students. But, I also am aware that the district is not the only place affording our children opportunities in these areas. Thus, when we look at the budget, some criteria for funding a particular initiative might be: is this a program or activity that the children can only get through the schools, and, also, might there be an alternative funding source for this program, etc., that we should try to access?

I'm afraid that's the going rate for a superintendent these days. But here's more on Smith's record:…Read More http://patch.com/A-2JWM

Even with stepped up enforcement, there are still landlords in Sleepy- and Tarry who are gaming the…Read More system with overcrowded housing units that violate code. Sleepy Hollow is considering hiring an additional person to help the village locate and handle the huge amount of paperwork needed to police for violations. I hate to add new workers, but that investment would pay out very quickly

Thanks to the current board and the people running. Totally appreciate the hard work and heavy…Read More lifting! Thanks Sheila for the wonderful work and keeping focused on a quality education.

We have had people investigate and they find that even if one parent lives here, the kids are…Read More allowed to go to school here.. Even it its not the primary or custodial parent. I've heard rumor that even if its a grandparent, aunt or relative who claims to be a 'care giver'. Nothing can legally be done. Even if the parent only works in town the kid has a right to go here.
A bigger problem is the 14 kids coming out of one multi family house that pays a total of $13k/year in property taxes. Tax multi familys and condos at rate of Single Family houses and problem with budget disappears.
