Andy Blenkush has been a photojournalist since graduating from college in 1998. Since that time he has worked on staff at several daily and community newspapers in the Midwest and New York. In the spring of 2009, Andy decided to focus on freelancing. He has photographed the President of the United States, covered local and professional sports, including the Minnesota Vikings, for the Associated Press, and has spent time on assignment abroad. Andy also regularly photographs weddings, which lend themselves perfectly to the art of photojournalism. His photos have been published by the New York Times, Washington Post, L.A. Times and countless other print and online publications across the globe, including many community-focused publications such as Patch.
The lure of photography for Andy is the emotional tie people have with pictures. A good photograph is one that elicits an emotional reaction from its audience. Pictures that do this are taken every day in big towns and small towns across the world, from birthday parties to inaugurations.
