BIO
Krista has lived in Sleepy Hollow with her two young kids and husband since Patch launched here in 2009, writing up local businesses in the listings. Since then, she's written the Mom Spelled Backwards columns, reviewed Movies Made Here, interviewed store owners for the Shop Talk series and much more. She's honored to be the new local editor and eager to make an even deeper connection with this community she so loves.
Before Patch, Krista wrote a few published novels, taught writing courses at NYU and Gotham, and even owned/operator an arts lounge/wine bar in Brooklyn for five years – the place she used to think she'd live forever, until she found her way to the Tarrytowns.
BELIEFS
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible and human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal certain key beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.
This disclosure is not a license for our editors to inject these beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will force us to be ever mindful to write, report, and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you, the user, ever think you see evidence that we failed in this mission, we wholeheartedly invite you to let us know.
Politics
-
How would you describe your political beliefs?
I am a registered Independent, which fits my refusal to choose between black and white when reality is so gray (or rather, a very complex multi-colored).
Religion
-
How religious would you say you are? Casual, observant, devout, non-religious?
I was raised Lutheran, but consider myself non-religious. More interested in personal spirituality.
Local Hot Button Issues
-
What do you think are the most important issues facing the community?
Our community faces the massive Bridge rebuild and its economic and environmental impacts and (for now) the sad absence of mass transit options. Our schools. The GM development. Mercury/etc. in the soil. The sometimes divisive relationship between the villages and between populations. Small-business success. The local economy.
