EF Students Raise $1,442 for Russian Child

It was a vibrant day in the hall of the Reformed Church on Saturday, where EF students and teachers staged a fundraising tag sale for a Russian boy with leukemia.

Moved by the struggle of family friends in Russia who desparately need big money to fund a blood marrow tranplant to save the life of their young son Demyan, a group of EF International Academy students worked hard Saturday (and the days leading up to) to put on a tag sale in Tarrytown.

As bargain hunters rifling through the many donated items they enjoyed the singing of co-organizer Masha (Marina Motorina, a longtime singer) and the internationl treats (Vietnamese coffee, Russian pancakes and more) cooked up by students hailing from around the world.

Co-organizer Kira Chan reports, "the tag sale collected $1,442 for Demyan! That was amazing and further than what I have expected, to be honest."

She also said there's many sale items left over that the students plan to continue to sell online to raise money for Demyan, so stay tuned for more information. "He will get his surgery soon."

Motorina is a friend of Demyan's parents and she knows how desperate they are now while their son is facing death everyday. She just played with him last winter and now he is dying. We are here not to talk about changing the world. We are here to talk for a boy whose life may be saved by one act of kindness. Isn't it what we are all trying to work and live for?
