Tarrytown to Host Peace Making Conference

One hundred young adults from around the globe will come together in Tarrytown this August with the goal of working together to create a peaceful and safe world.

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) will host a conference with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon from Aug. 24-31 at EF Education First’s (EF) New York campus in Tarrytown.  

“In today’s globally interconnected world, where cultural tensions, global terrorism and religious violence appear in the news all too often, EF and the UN believe that building 21st century skills around peace and global security for the next generation of global leaders is critically important,” the UNAOC-EF Summer Camp press release reads.   

The UNAOC-EF Summer Camp and is currently seeking applications from young adults would like to participate in the event.  So far, UNAOC-EF Summer Camp has received 60,000 submissions from youth in 180 countries and expects to receive at least 180,000 applications by the June 15 deadline.

Those aged 18 to 35 can submit their applications at http://www.UNAOCEFSummerSchool.org.  

Students will learn to:

  • Negotiate for peace-building and cooperation
  • Use social media for positive social change        
  • Fostering responsible global citizenship        
  • Effective advocacy         
  • Media and information literacy
  • Essentials of social entrepreneurship 

"Through the encouragement of dialogue, the participants can gain the skills needed in today's interdependent and intercultural world,” said Eva Kockum, President of EF International Language Centers.
