Tarrytown PD: Unlicensed Cabs, Tires Slashed

A summary of incidents in Tarrytown Jan. 3 through Jan. 10, 2013

The following information was supplied by the Tarrytown Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two Unlicensed Taxis

An anonymous caller reported to police on Jan. 4 at 7:55 p.m. that two taxicabs waiting in the taxi holding lane in the residential commuter lot were unlicensed. Two drivers with NY plates were issued tickets for operating an unlicensed taxicab with return court dates.

Tarrytown Assists with Sleepy Hollow Tragedies

Tarrytown was twice called to assist in the two gruesome Sleepy Hollow events on the morning of Jan. 5. They were requested at 3:24 a.m. to assist police with the transport of the defendant Christopher Howson to headquarters on Beekman Avenue after the alleged strangulation of his wife. Then at 10:06 a.m., the Fire Department was requested to assist at the scene of the fatal Tappan Avenue car accident that killed Sleepy Hollow's Catherine Kadnar.

Youth Fight

On Jan. 7 at 3:28 p.m., a 911 caller reported a youth fight in progress on North Broadway. Officers reported finding two youths who said they were just jumped by a group of four or five other youths. Officers couldn’t find the other group. Victims were transported to headquarters where their parents were contacted. Detectives spoke with these youths and their parents as well as aggressors and their parents and would follow up with school officials the following day.

At 5:29 p.m., one victim and his mother came back to headquarters to report a verbal altercation with one of the aggressors at McDonald’s. That mother was contacted who said she would pick up her son and bring him to headquarters.

Tires Slashed

The Talleyrand Crescent property manager, just off White Plains Road, reported on Jan. 10 at 8:09 a.m., finding two cars with their tires slashed in the employee parking spaces. Also, sometime overnight police reported someone removed a broken TV from the dumpster in front of the Tallyrand property office and threw it on the ground in front of the door. 

Lieutenant William Herguth said the case was under investigation.
