Update: 42 Still Without Power in Tarrytown

Update, 8:30 a.m., Friday: Last night's lightning strike in Tarrytown has 42 customers still without power Friday morning, according to Con Edison's outage map. The estimated restoration time is 12 noon.

Meanwhile, some residents are sounding off by this recurring problem. Hernan Lopez of Altamont Avenue says he's actually considering moving after five and half years of outages in this area after so many storms. "I can't believe it happens every single rain and snow storm... It's been a constant problem and always at the same spot: the property of the Castle at Highland and Benedict."

Lopez wonders why there can't be a fix for this. "Isn't it more costly to deploy all the emergency aid, leaving people without power, missing jobs, etc. than installing wires underground?"

A blown transformer and wires down at Benedict Avenue and Highland have left 771 customers without power following Thursday night's severe thunderstorm in Tarrytown.  Another 154 customers are in the dark around Martling Avenue.

Con Edison estimates a restoration time of 11 p.m. Thursday for the 900-plus customers without power.

One resident described on Facebook a huge bolt strike in the Crest neighborhood, seemingly 10-feet in diameter strike, starting a fire in the street.

The Village of Sleepy Hollow issued an alert reminding folks to exercise extreme caution out there. Village Clerk Paula McCarthy writes, "Due to the current storm; please contact the Sleepy Hollow Police Dept. if you see any fallen trees and/or large branches on the roadways or on wires. Please do not go near any fallen wires at any time!"
