Joseph A. Laurino: WWII, GM, Sleepy Hollow

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Monday with funeral mass on Tuesday at St. Teresa of Avila Church with interment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Joseph A. Laurino, a retired General Motors employee from Sleepy Hollow died February 14, 2013.  He was 92 years of age.  He was born February 2, 1921 to Caroline R. and Joseph L. Laurino in Long Island City, NY.

He graduated from North Tarrytown High School in 1940.  He was a graduate of Iona College in 1954.

Mr. Laurino served as Captain in the U.S. Army- 17th Engineer Battalion with the Second Armored Division in the European theatre of operations during World War II.

He worked at General Motors in North Tarrytown in the financial department for 26 years.  He retired in 1979.

On April 26th, 1947 he married Josephine Capossela at St. Teresa’s Church in North Tarrytown.  They lived in North Tarrytown for 61 years. He was a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila where he was a Eucharistic Minister and he was also a volunteer at Rosary Hill Home.

He is survived by a son, Joseph A. Laurino Jr. (Bonnie) of Wilmington, NC and a daughter, Joyce Poli (Michael) of Davidsonville, MD and three grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

His wife, Josephine has predeceased him.  Two sisters, Congetta Capossela of Tarrytown and Roselyn Corsetty of Patterson, NY both died earlier.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. His Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday at St. Teresa of Avila Church at 9:30 AM with interment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
