$540,000 Worth of Medical Equipment Stolen

A worker transported some trays of equipment from Phelps to a Hartsdale doctor's office, where the screws and other expensive stuff went missing.

Reverse pedicle screws, adjustable t-connectors, and dual outer diameter polyaxial screws with quick release ratchets and holding sleeve assembly...

These were some of the very specific items listed by a worker as stolen from her vehicle after transporting them from Phelps operating room on July 5 to a Hartsdale doctor's office.

On July 19 the worker reported to Sleepy Hollow Police that at noon on the 5th she had received two trays from Phelps Hospital operating room containing various medical supplies. Around 3 p.m. she parked the vehicle and noticed the items were missing from her trunk with the trunk door open at a doctor's office in Hartsdale.

The woman reported to police that there were no signs of forced entry to her car and she checked the area and had not been able to locate the items.

The inventory list was valued at $540,000. The case has been handed over to the detective division for further investigation.

PR person for the hospital, Nancy Gold, was unable to further explain the incident, who the worker was, why materials were being transported, and what those items are used for. Gold was however stunned by the alleged price tag.

A quick online search yieled this link for medical equipment from the company Synthes, with some spinal surgery instruments and implants bearing the same terminology.

Sleepy Hollow police could not be reached for comment.

The medical device industry is as bad as the defense industry when it comes to the exorbitant cost of this stuff. It's all a scam. The whole HC biz is a scam. All our core institutions are inherently corrupt. The Govt, Wall St, The Insurance industry, HC, the Mil industrial complex etc etc.. There is no one to trust and they all just slapp each others backs while they rip us off. A hard rain is coming to this land. A cleansing is required and sadly, it will be by the gun.

It's corrupt because a medical device company spent millions of dollars in research and development, and then have to spend untold sums of money for FDA trials and licensing? For shame that a company try to earn a profit. We should all be entitled to the best for nothing. Let's expand givernment some more so that we can all have products by the "lowest bidder".

As someone who used to work in the OR, Jaques is completely spot on! Hey Hound, which incidentally is a great name you picked...all your useless howling....when you have to have your Spinal Cord Fused maybe we can go to the hardware store and pick up your screws and rods...we'll save the taxpayers some money....

Sounds like an inside job, woof woof. I bet the metal is worth more than the items they are made of, platinum is only like $5 a pound, but palladium is at $1,800 an ounce.
