Manhole Fire at Bedford and County House Road Leaves Villagers in Dark

Con Edison reported 699 customers in the dark Monday night.

Citizens have been reporting tonight that they are in the dark from Webber Park and Hudson Terrace stretching all the way past Pocantico Hills School up Bedford Road.

Around 8 p.m., police said there had been no accident, and had notified Con Edison.

Residents confirmed that Con Edison was on the scene and had robo-called some back with a restoration time of 11 p.m., certainly a long time on such a cold night.

Con Edison listed two outages in the area with one a "building outage" near North Broadway affecting 591 customers, and another 108 experiencing an "area outage" up Route 448. The first group on their map had an estimated restoration time of 11 p.m., while the latter says only "pending."

Some citizens have reported on Patch's Facebook page that a manhole exploded and the Fire Department have responded as well to Bedford at County House Road.

Village Clerk Paula McCarthy confirmed a manhole "problem," offering up a warming center if need be in a message that went out at 9:25 p.m.:

Residents of Webber Park; Webber Avenue, Sleepy Hollow Rd and nearby areas are experiencing a power outage due to a manhole problem on Bedford Rd.

Con Edison has been notified and is responding, but at this time, we don’t know how long it will take to repair the problem.
