Even the Headless Horseman Has Parking Problems

Though this pre-Halloween season seems to have gone off without a hitch -- both police departments reported nary an incident with the big village nights on Saturday and Sunday block parties and parade -- there are some signs of the season in the blotter entries leading up to this.

A few odd holiday-themed items come from Sleepy Hollow Police:

Philipsburg Manor Gas Odor

A caller reported that a patron approached him with concern about a gas odor at the Philipsburg Manor Restoration on 381 N. Broadway on Oct. 18 at 7:20 p.m. where the festivities for the Horseman's Hollow were just beginning for the night.

The Fire Chief was contacted and officials a very low reading of gas on their meter at edge of the property along the pathway adjacent to Route 9. Officials saw no need to evacuate or close the event. Con Edison returned Monday morning with a small backhoe, dug down to the pipes, and fixed the issue.

Even the Headless Horseman Can't Find Good Parking Here

A Devries Avenue resident complained to police on Oct. 18 just after 10 p.m. that a horse trailer was blocking her walking path. Police confirmed a truck and trailer were partially blocking the path.

They attempted to find the driver to get the vehicle moved but were unable to. The Restoration staff at the ticket booth for the Horseman's Hollow event (where at one point guests pass by the Headless Horseman himself) said that the vehicle would likely be moved shortly as the event was wrapping up for the night.

The resident called back police to report the driver was on the scene.

However, the caller called back around 12:45 a.m. to complain again about the truck with the trailer in front of her house. Police went and noted that the trailer had been moved.

Car vs. Cemetery Headstone

Sleepy Hollow Police responded to a scene of an accident between a car and a headstone in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery on Oct. 19 at 7:16 p.m.

Police Chief Gregory Camp reported a driver with a suspended license from Connecticut was attempting to make a u-turn in the cemetery and went up on a short headstone off the roadway causing minor damage.

Officers found the car inside the north gate just north of the gate. They requested towing as the car was propped on top of the cemetery stone.

The car was impounded and a summons issued to the driver. They were taken to the address on Harwood Road they were originally trying to get to.

And in Tarrytown...

It's Too Early for a Costume

A man came to police headquarters to report on Oct. 18 that a suspicious man wearing shades and a mask has been to his home looking for him while he was at work.

The suspect allegedly made threats the man's relative, saying he was going to harm her cousin and if he can't find him, "she'll pay the consequences."

Police said the man was unknown to the complainant and they don't have a suspect.

The masked man appeared around 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 14 and again at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 17.
