Hudson Harbor Construction Begins 7 Minutes Too Soon and Other TPD News

A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Tarrytown.

Illegal Housing

A tenant living in a Mechanics Avenue basement was kicked out after authorities found the apartment to be illegal. 

On Nov. 18 at 2:48 p.m., the Tarrytown Building Department called for police assistance to investigate an basement apartment on Mechanics Avenue. 

Officers reported there was no answer at the door, but saw a mattress, closet with clothing handing on it and a television or radio left inside. 

At 4:45 p.m., requested added patrol to identify the tenant there. The sergeant found a tenant. The building department and inspector were notified with the village engineer. The tenant allowed them access and it was determined it was illegal and he was told to vacate. 

The tenant complied. The building department would follow up with the owner the next day. 

Hit and Run

A caller reported to police that her car parked on Main Street had been hit by a car that left the scene. 

The car was described as a dark blue Ford pick-up truck with Sleepy Hollow Cleaning lettering on the rear window and the woman had a possible plate number. 

The registered owner was traced to an Irvington address, where Irvington police reported the truck was parked there. 

Tarrytown police went to the residence and spoke with the man who confirmed he was the one involved and he left the scene after he got scared. 

The officer issued a universal traffic ticket for leaving the scene of an property damage accident. 

Won't Stop for Police

An officer reported on Nov. 20 at 7:52 p.m. that he was driving southbound on Route 9 trying to stop a car for a violation who was refusing to stop. 

The officer was able to stop the car at the DoubleTree Hotel lot and issued a summons. 

Construction Violation

A caller reported that construction work at Hudson Harbor was beginning before 8 a.m. It was 7:53 a.m.

Police observed that work had started and issued two village code violations.
