Village Police Charge Two Hit and Run Drivers

One Tarrytown man told police he fled because he was nervous; a Bronxville woman allegedly wouldn't open her door to police at first.

Two separate hit and run incidents in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow resulted in recent arrests.

A caller reported to Sleepy Hollow Police a hit and run accident around noon on Oct. 5 -- and they had the driver's license plate to prove it.

Police contacted Yonkers PD to try to make contact with the registered owner of the car that struck another car and drove away. An hour later, police had a possible number for the owner, and left a voicemail for him to return the call to Sleepy Hollow PD.

Yonkers PD made contact at someone at a Bronxville residence who said the registered owner was in Puerto Rico. The woman did not want to open the door for Yonkers officers. However following further investigation, the same woman who wouldn't open the door did admit her guilt, said Chief Gregory Camp. She was issued a summons for fleeing the scene of a personal injury accident.

In Tarrytown a caller reported he had just been involved in a hit and run on South Broadway at 2 p.m. on Oct. 6.

The other car apparently fled the scene heading northbound on Route 9 and was described as a small grey car. The car hit sustained damage on the rear bumper.

At 4:48 p.m., the other driver, a 29-year-old man from Tarrytown, came to headquarters and told police he had been involved in a hit and run but fled the scene because he was nervous and scared.

He was issued a summons for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and given a return court date.
