Sports Digest: Wolfpack Winners

See what your local student-athletes—and their biggest supporters—are up to.

Welcome to Patch's snapshot of sports in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

The following comes from David Halesworth; thanks to him for sharing all the news from a great season:

Last Sunday both Wolfpack 3rd & 4th grade teams participated in the WYFBL’s 2nd Annual Red Zone Tournament.  The tournament is structured similarly to College Football overtime, where the ball is spotted on the 20 yard line, and both teams get an equal number of opportunities to score.

Wolfpack White gave a strong performance, and led by Ben Good, Weston Latessa, Kevin Sullivan, and Kishaun Cole, made it all the way to the semifinals!

Wolfpack Black followed up their WYFBL Championship season with a great day as well beating Westlake, Tuckahoe, Valhalla, and Cortlandt to make it to the finals.  In the finale against White Plains, the Wolfpack defense had White Plains in reverse, and ultimately forced a turnover as Harrison Halesworth smashed White Plains’ QB, and Jake Zednik intercepted the pass.  The powerful Wolfpack Black offense wasted no time taking the lead as Halesworth blazed around the right end for a TD on the first offensive play.

With the lead, the Wolfpack only needed to stop White Plains from scoring to secure the championship.  Halesworth and Dylan Nelson combined on a tackle for loss on first down.  Then it was Zednik, Noel Gomez and Reuben Bertiz stuffing White Plains at the line of scrimmage on second.  On third down it was Talon Carsto, Michael Scaglione and Danny Sullivan on the stop leading to 4th and 8 for White Plains.  With the game on the line Dylan Nelson forced the play deep and wide, and with an assist from James Welch they stopped the White Plains running back for a short gain, and locked up the title.

It was a great performance by all the boys with Halesworth leading the way with 6 TD runs and two TD passes, both to James Welch, Jake Zednik with a TD and an interception, Dylan Nelson leading the defense with scores of tackles, and his line-mates Nicholas Del Monaco, Reuben Bertiz, Noel Gomez, Talon Carsto, Liam Hansen and Evan Bernal holding down the fort all day for a 6-0 record, and their second consecutive Red Zone Championship!

Congratulations to all of the Wolfpack teams on a great season!
