Sports Digest: Your Weekly Wolfpack Roundup

Welcome to Patch's snapshot of sports in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

In their second consecutive battle against another undefeated team, the 3-0 Tarrytown Wolfpack 5th & 6th grade team traveled to play a 3-0 Westlake team.  It was a defensive battle all game long with the Wolfpack defense led my Michael Ciffone, Danny Minerva, Justin Hotetz leading the way, and Jack Stroligo having another interception, for his third on the season, to end the half 0-0.  Westlake started the 3rd quarter with the ball, but once again the Wolfpack defense stepped into action forcing Westlake to punt. The Wolfpack started their drive on its own 40 yard line, and the offense marched right down the field with great runs by Danny Adair, Colby Martins, Jack Stroligo and Myles Walker pushing the ball deep into Westlake territory.  Finally, Danny Adair capped off the drive with a 5 yard touchdown run, and Colby Martins added the extra points to give the Wolfpack an 8-0 lead heading into the 4th quarter. The defensive battle continued in the 4th, with 2 minutes left Westlake put a drive together down to the Wolfpack 30 yard line.  Several positive plays brought them to the Wolfpack 15 yard line.  With 45 seconds left in the game Westlake dropped back to pass, but Owen Loffredo stepped in front of the pass for an interception on the 5 yard line to end the threat, and ice the game for the Wolfpack taking our record to 4-0.  Next game Friday night under the lights against Pleasantville's Parkway field at 8:00 pm.

Wolfpack 3rd & 4th White took the field on a rainy Sunday night at Valhalla H.S. against the Valhalla Vikings, and once again started fast and strong to take control of the game.  Harrison Halesworth pounded Valhalla inside and out behind the great blocking of Talon Carsto, and Danny Sullivan.  On the third play of the game Jake Zednik made a great ball fake to Halesworth, and ripped off a 45 yard TD run to open the scoring.  Halesworth punched in the extra point for an early 7-0 lead.  The defense continued their stellar play with Halesworth, Zednik, Dylan Nelson, James Welch and Reuben Bertiz dominating the line of scrimmage.  The Wolfpack offense got the ball back and wasted no time extending their lead with Halesworth rumbling from 55 yards out to pay dirt.  William Kelly punched in the extra point for a 14-0 lead.   Valhalla fought back late in the half, and after a long TD run brought the score to 14-6 at the half.  After the half it was all Wolfpack as Dylan Nelson scored on a nifty run from 50 yards out to extend the lead to 20-6.  The defense continued to push Valhalla backwards with multiple tackles for loss by Halesworth, and great defensive play by Michael Scaglione, Welch, Zednik, Liam Peter Hanson and Noel Gomez.  On their final drive Michael Scaglione took a broken play, and made the most of it, rolling to the end zone from 45 yards out to cap the scoring on the 26-6 win, and a 3-1 record on the season.   

Wolfpack Black traveled to Ossining to face Ossining White in an early morning showdown between rivals.  Due to some key injuries, Wolfpack Black had to juggle it’s lineup, with several players in new, key positions. Aren Arduino stepped it up at the QB position running the offense in his first start of the season. Kevin Sullivan ran the ball at 4 back very well, fighting for some key first downs behind great blocks by Westin Latessa. Kishaun Cole scored 2 touchdowns from the 3 back position, and several defenders had strong games led by a sacks and forced fumbles by Philip Marchini and Kevin Sullivan. Robert Delvecchio also forced fumble and a turnover for the Wolfpack. It was a hard fought, effort filled game by all, but in the end the Wolfpack came up short, losing by a score of 20-12, and bringing their season record to 1-2.

On an early Saturday morning the Wolfpack Flag Red team travelled to Pleasantville Green to play their 4th game of the season.  On a damp wet morning at Soldiers and Sailors Field the Wolfpack played a tough, and sluggish game against a Pleasantville Green team.  Once again the Red team was powered by QB Armani Curet who was fantastic on both sides of the ball. Curet scored two long touchdowns on QB boot leg runs.  The second long run was a thing of beauty, slicing and weaving his way through the defense with excellent blocking by his team, especially Liam Grimes, Timmy Plunkett and John Balascio.  There were also several key runs by Luke Wuerffel and Jai Weitzen with key blocks by Matthew Plunkett and Peter Altieri.  The defense was tough all day as Curet (6 flags), Weitzen (2 flags), Nico Boccabella (3 flags), Jack Macca (1flag) and Rhymon Hargrove (1 flag) frustrated the Pleasantville offense.  Except for one long run by the Panthers, the defense won this game.  Wolfpack Red is now 3-1 on the season. Considering the youth on this team they have really come together well so far.

Wolfpack Flag Black traveled to White Plains to face off against an experienced White Plains Bernies team.  Despite a great team effort, and 2 TD's from Tyler Mahood, and another from James Smith, the Wolfpack were overmatched on this day, losing 42-21.  James Smith led the defense with 6 flags on the day.
